Where it all began…
It all started when I came across an issue for my beloved 1989 Celica. Parts are getting extremely hard to come by. Some are impossible to find even in aftermarket form. So I thought to myself “What if I just made the parts myself”. So I got to studying ways to go about that. Found 3D printing and thought I’d give it a shot.
Started with a classic Ender 3, assembled it myself, got some filament and started printing random things to learn it. Then I realized the Ender was just too slow for my liking and started looking at ways to make it faster. Instead of going that route, I ended up getting myself a Bambulabs A1 and was immediately blown away at how fast and efficient it was. Then I wanted to get into the modeling part of my plan and realized, to put it gently, I sucked at it. However, my wife loved all the little knick knacks I had printed to learn about my printers. She would bring them to work and show them off to all her coworkers and friends. Then I started to get requests for things like a heart shaped slinky or small fidget things.
That’s when I realized I could make things for people other than myself and my car groups. Since I was no good at the modeling portion I didn’t want my printer to go to waste. So I started searching for models of things I enjoyed. The first few I enjoyed all had some costs attached to them. Then I started getting ideas about opening my own shop. But what would I sell?
After a few months of looking over many amazing creators I finally found the first one I truly enjoyed the models of. Happy Flexi Pets. The very first model I printed was the fox, my favorite animal. I started printing some other animals as well, Soon I had a collection and my wife brought them to work. Within moments every one was spoken for. I felt that more options would be better and found both Cinderwings and Zou3D, both very popular makers.
However I couldn’t survive off of just my wife’s coworkers, I had started making too many new little 3D friends. So we began looking at local markets and started selling at Farmers Markets. My wife, with her beautiful resin pieces, and myself with adorable 3D models ventured forth into the small business world. Even on the first day we had people asking for a website to share with their friends. Here we are and growing!
